I feel honored to work in my field of research where data and numbers can give voice to people in a community, and change lives through better public policies. My accomplishment as a teacher/researcher is presenting opportunities for others on my team to do the same - to make a difference through their work. Our focus is on issues that impact public policy, so we are involved in areas that people feel are important like education, healthcare, our natural resources, the environment, transportation, and so much more. Research can help improve lives - it can support funds for early learning for children who can't afford preschool, it can convince a Fortune 500 company to invest $10 million in their local public schools, it can bring business and government together to work on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Research gives voice to average citizens, and that's a powerful tool today.
